On Sunday 29th July 2007 Southport Cycling Club ran a series of three rides covering the Fylde lanes and the Forest of Bowland.
The three routes all starting and finishing at the Preston Sports Arena and covered some of the favourite roads used by the Southport CC ride Bill Bradley for training during his very sucessful
years as a premier British cyclist.
Over 126 riders completed the BILL BRADLEY MEMORIAL RIDES in perfect weather conditions, a novelty for this summer.
For the start and finish Preston Arena proved to be the perfect venue with riders settinf off into the quiet country lanes of The Fylde heading towards Pilling then Scorton. After a cafe stop at
Scorton the riders could choose, between a hard 60 miles through the Trough of Bowland and less severe ride over Harris End fell or a more gentle ride over Barnacre, back to Preston Arena.
Our thanks must go to Bill Greenhalgh and Ivor Armstrong of Cycling Development NorthWest and club member Phil Melville for their help and donations. We would also like to thank the staff at Preston
Sports Arena for their help on the day.
Many thanks to all helpers from the cycling club and most of all to the riders who made the event a success.
As a result of the efforts on the day a donation of £500.00 was made to MacMillan Nursing representative Pam Walmsley, the secretary for the Macmillan Cancer Relief Formby and Southport Appeal, at the clubroom on Mon 3
rd Sept 2007.
